41 year old Karl Izzo handed in his resignation to Sirens Waterpolo Club. This site has learnt that he is to join San Giljan who have parted company with Italian mentor Marco Risso.

Karl Izzo

Izzo, a former Sliema player, will be thus having his second stint as the Ballutta coach after he was their Assistant coach two years ago. Last season Izzo competed with a depleted Sirens side and only managed a disappointing 5th place in the ASA Waterpolo National Championship. San Giljan on the other hand managed to finish third after stern opposition from Exiles.

Close sources to the St. Paul’s Bay team said that Izzo had a two year contract but both sides ended this agreement by mutual agreement. Karl Izzo was facing harsh criticism by some Sirens’ committee members including Richard Micallef who is said to have been the mastermind behind this premature divorce.
