Karl Izzo head coach of San Giljan. Paul Fava is new team captain

In a statement issued by San Giljan ASC it was announced that Karl Izzo will be the club’s head coach for the next two seasons and that training is now well underway under his guidance. Izzo is also the assistant coach of the national team and is the team coach of the junior national team.

The club added that with Izzo’s knowledge of the game, experience and enthusiasm they can look forward to the upcoming season with confidence that good results will be obtained so as to consolidate San Giljan’s position among the elite of local waterpolo.

As previously announced on this website, San Giljan have also confirmed that Edward “Cocci” Aquilina has joined Neptunes while Claudio Spiteri De Barro will be loaned to Marsascala together with Matthew Pace and Ranier Scerri for one year.

Marsascala’s Liam Grixti will be loaned to San Giljan for this season, while Mark Borg Spiteri returns to the club after a year on loan at the Southsiders. Veteran Anthony Galea also returned to the club and will play alongside his son Andreas in what should be a first in local waterpolo.

San Giljan have also secured the services of junior national player Jean Claude Cutajar from Marsascala. Kai Dowling, after his positive and promising displays last season has signed a long-term contract together with youngsters Kurt Mock, Keith Galea and Matthew Fenech also committing their future to the club.

Paul Fava has been appointed as the new team captain while very soon the club shall be announcing its foreigners for the forthcoming season.
