Argentinean striker Julio Alcorse was released by Floriana FC after he failed to impress against AEK Larnaca and in recent training sessions. Floriana activated a clause in Alcorse’s one year deal as the Greens had the first option to release him till the end of July. The former Marsaxlokk striker was on trial with Premier newcomers Balzan before he joined Floriana 20 hours before the Green’s home game against AEK on July 13th.

Johann Said in the meantime secured goalkeeper Manuel Bartolo on a one year season loan from Msida St. Joseph as third choice goalkeeper John Agius moved to Msida on a similar deal. The 27 year old Bartolo will battle with William Amamoo as Englishman Matthew Towns is set to be released.

Floriana are also monitoring Valletta’s striker Alfred Effiong as the Greens are on the look out for a pure striker. The last major transfer between the bitter rivals was John Buttiegieg when the latter joined Valletta almost decade ago. Four years ago midfielder Dylan Zarb joined the Greens from Valletta.
