Andrea Agius (Open Category) of S.W. Elite has established a new national swimming record in the 50 breaststroke event when he bettered his time to 29.69 from 30.00 he had obtained in Berlin 2011 during the Ninth Age Group Time Trials of the season held yesterday at the National Pool, Tal-Qroqq.  A jubilant Agius also performed well in the 100m breaststroke event.
Julian Harding (Group D) of Neptunes also established a new Age Group D (born 1995-1996) record in the same stroke but in the 100m event with a time of 1.08.26 erasing Andrea M. Agius previous record of 1.08.67 set in April 2011.

Another record by another Neptunes' swimmer was established by Andrea Bellia Group C (born 1998-1999) in the 100 butterfly event when she bettered her own time of 1.09.36 from  1.10.95 which she had established in the Malta National Championships in July 2012.

In yesterday's time trials athletes from two local water polo clubs; Exiles and Marsaxlokk ASC took part in various events. Habs Swim Club and Cooper Swim Club both of United Kingdom also participated with 51 athletes. A total of 10 swimming clubs participated in the well attended event.

The Time Trials turned out to be a real trial for the swimmers though as the event was marred by technical annoyances which led to the event stretching from 2pm until nearly 7pm. In fact it was no surprise that some swimmers opted to scratch some of the events held towards the end of the program.
