Jacques Mizzi to make motor racing history next Sunday

Friday, March 29, 2013, 18:33

On Sunday , 20-year old Jacques Mizzi is making motor racing history in Malta with his participation in the opening two rounds of the 2013 Renault UK Clio Cup at Brands Hatch circuit, a supporting race of the British Touring Car Championship.

Jacques has successfully participated in karting events in Malta and Sicily and a few other foreign events, but this is the first time that he is racing in a very competitive UK championship with a Renault Clio – a very popular one-make saloon car category.

The first race is at 10.20 am, and the second race is at 3.35 pm. The second race can be watched live on ITV4 and ITV4 HD, or through live streaming on itv.com/btcc. 23 drivers are taking part, including three-time Renault UK Clio Cup Champion Paul Rivett who joined the entry list in the last minute.

Together with two drivers from Lithuania, Jacques is the only other non-British driver, and it would be interesting to watch the level of the racing skill of our driver in comparison to the others who have all the facilities to train and race at home, unlike Jacques.

Jacques has visited Brands Hatch circuit for training purposes, but this is the first time that we shall be able to see what he can do under real racing conditions. Hopefully the weather will not be too bad as was the case in one of his training sessions. Jacques will no doubt be giving his best, and he expects to do better in the second race.

In addition to the 1.198 miles Brands Hatch Indy circuit, Jacques will be visiting 7 other racing circuits all over the UK until he returns to Brands Hatch again in October, but on that occasion he will race along the longer Grand Prix circuit. Independently of the final result, this is going to be a tremendous racing learning experience for Jacques.

Jacques wishes to thank all his sponsors, including Kind’s Auto Sales Ltd., while all the auto racing fans in Malta wish Jacques the best of luck and success.

The Renault UK Clio Cup is sponsored by buyoils.co.uk with support from ELF, NGK Spark Plugs, WP Racing and official tyre supplier Dunlop.
