International participation for Malta’s U17 and U15

The National Coaches Karl Izzo and Anthony Farrugia have selected the following players to form part of the National Teams which are competing in the U17 COMEN Water Polo Cup and the Darko Cukic Memorial International Water Polo Competition.

COMEN U17 Water Polo Cup

This competition, in preparation for the LEN European Junior Water Polo Championships to be held in Tbilisi, Georgia, is being played in Cagliari between the 1st and 4th August 2019. Malta are in Group A together with Hungary, Montenegro and Serbia. Group B consists of Croatia, Greece, Italy and Spain. The team is under the guidance of Karl Izzo. Edward Bonello is the physiotherapist and Karl Galea is the Team Manager. Karl Galea will also have extra duties as he forms part of the COMEN Technical Water Polo Committee. Peter Balzan is the referee representing Malta.

Malta’s first match is this afternoon at 17:20 against Serbia. On Friday they meet Hungary at 10:20 and Montenegro at 16:00. The Quarter Finals (2 nd v 3rd and 1st v 4th) will be played on Saturday morning, with the semi finals being played on Saturday afternoon. Sunday morning is dedicated to the ranking matches.

Darko Cukic Memorial International Water Polo Competition

Following the ITU Cup held last month in Istanbul, the following players were selected for this annual competition. Malta will be playing against Croatia on Friday at 09:00 and against Georgia at 18:00. On Saturday, they will compete against Montenegro at 09:00 and Serbia at 19:20.

LEN European Junior Open Water Swimming Championships

Andre Camilleri and Sarah Demicoli, together with their coach Roland Eskudt are competing in these prestigious Championships in Racice, Czech Republic. Andre will be participating in the 5Km swim for boys aged 14-15 on Friday at noon while Sarah will be participating in the 10Km swim for girls aged 18-19 on Saturday at 10:30. Joe Caruana Curran, ASA President, is the LEN Bureau Liaison for these Championships.
