The Kickboxing year for Malta is getting to a close but the competitions are still ongoing. In two months Maltese athletes from Ying Yang Kickboxing will compete in three different competitions, both locally and abroad.
On the 26 of October Reuben “the Wolf” Azzopardi will compete in Marseille in a Savate match. His opponent will be Anthony Fremont and the athletes will go for a 5×2 match with Savate rules. This will be the first time that Azzopardi will compete in this style even though he usually competes in K1 Kickboxing rules.
This is the second time that a Maltese Kickboxer will compete in this Discipline. Since the match will be with Savate rules both athletes will be wearing the relative equipment. They will not be using the helmet but the use of the special slippers, that is used in this Sport, is compulsory. As well as the gloves and the mouthgurad.
In the first week of November a Maltese contingent will travel to Italy to compete in the WTKF International Competition. This is an event where athletes from different countries will compete for World Titles in their respective categories. Together with Master Noel Mercieca, the founder if the club, 6 Ying Yang athletes, amongst them Reuben “the Wolf” Azzopardi, and Clayton Portelli form the Wu Shu Ky will travel to Pisa to represent Malta to compete in Kickboxing, K1 and MMA.
The last activity for November will be the next edition of Gladiators Night where Maltese athletes will go against Kickboxers form the Northern Ireland. Here the local professional Kickboxer, Daniel “the Jet” Zahra, will face Johnny Smith in a professional Kickboxing match of 3×3.
