  • Steven Camilleri (Neptunes) jirbaħ il-premju BOV Premier Division għall-ħames darba
  • Stephen Micallef (Marsaskala) jirbaħ il-premju BOV L-Ewwel Diviżjoni
  • Francesca Paolella (Sliema) tirbaħ il-premju BOV Plejers Femminili

Steven Camilleri (Neptunes Grimaldi) u Stephen Micallef (Marsaskala Nutrition Empire) huma l-BOV Waterpolo Plejers tas-Sena għall-Premier u l-Ewwel Diviżjoni rispettivament. Francesca Paolella (Sliema Frank Salt Real Estate) rebħet il-premju tal-Plejers Femminili.

L-istaġun 2015 tal-waterpolo ta’ Camilleri jista’ jiġi deskritt bħala wieħed mill-aqwa fil-karriera tiegħu, meta rebaħ it-tliet premjijiet kollha ta’ ‘Plejer tax-Xahar’ matul l-istaġun. Steven skorja l-ammont eċċezzjonali ta’ 61 gowl fi 17-il partita biex b’hekk sar il-plejer bl-iżjed ammont ta’ gowls. Dan ma kienx faċli meta tiġi kkunsidrata l-klassi tal-plejers barranin fil-league bħal Peter Biros li kiseb tliet midalji tad-deheb fl-Olimpjadi, u r-Rebbieħ Dinji, Guillermo Molina. Din hija l-ħames darba li Camilleri kiseb dan il-premju u din is-sena reġa’ lura għall-ogħla livell ta’ waterpolo fl-Italja meta ffirma mat-tim A1 ta’ Circolo Canottieri Ortigia.

Il-karatteristiċi ewlenin ta’ Stephen Micallef huma l-attitudni tiegħu li qatt ma jaqta’ qalbu u l-preżenza qawwija tiegħu fiċ-ċentru tal-logħba, minkejja li mhux wieħed mill-ikbar plejers fl-ilma. Stephen kien kruċjali għaż-żewġ ta’ Marsaskala fuq ir-rivali Marsaxlokk f’biss 4 ijiem biex b’hekk rebħu kemm il-BOV First Division Knock Out kif ukoll il-League. Huwa skorja 4 gowls fir-rebħa ta’ Marsaskala ta’ 10-8 fil-finali tan-Knock Out.

Il-kapaċità li tiskorja u l-veloċità tagħha fil-pixxina wasslu biex Francesca Paolella tikkontribwixxi għar-rebħa ta’ Sliema fil-BOV Waterpolo Women’s League. L-għawwiema veterana kienet qed tmexxi lil Sliema wkoll fil-finali tal-BOV Women’s Knock Out meta tilfu b’gowl wieħed kontra l-Exiles, b’Paolella tiskorja 4 mid-disa’ gowls tat-tim tagħha.

Anthony Scicluna, Uffiċjal Kap tal-Bank of Valletta u Joe Caruana Curran, President tal-Assoċjazzjoni tal-Isport Akwatiku ta’ Malta, ippreżentaw il-premjijiet lir-rebbieħa matul il-Laqgħa Ġenerali Annwali tal-ASA. Sfortunatament Stevie Camilleri ma setax ikun preżenti li jiġbor għoti tiegħu minħabba l-impenji tiegħu f’ Ortigia . Il-premju tiegħu inġabar minn Matthew Bonello, President tan-Neptunes Water Polo Club. Il-Bank of Valletta ħabbar ukoll li se jkun qed jestendi l-isponsorizzazzjoni tiegħu għall-ASA għall-istaġun tal-2016.

BOV Water Polo Players of the Year Awards

  • Stevie Camilleri (Neptunes) wins BOV Premier Division award for the 5th time
  • Stephen Micallef (Marsaskala) lands the BOV First Division award
  • Francesca Paolella (Sliema) wins BOV Women’s award

Steven Camilleri (Neptunes Grimaldi) and Stephen Micallef (Marsaskala Nutrition Empire) are the BOV Water Polo Players of the Year for the Premier and First Division respectively. Francesca Paolella (Sliema Frank Salt Real Estate) won the Women’s award.

Camilleri’s water polo season 2015 can be described as one of the best of his career, winning all three ‘Player of the Month’ awards during the season. Stevie scored an astounding 61 goals in 17 matches making him the top scorer. This was not an easy feat considering the class of the foreign players in the league such as triple Olympic gold medallist Peter Biros and World Champion Guillermo Molina. This is the fifth time that Camilleri has achieved this award and has this year returned to the top flight of Italian Water Polo signing with A1 side Circolo Canottieri Ortigia.

A never-say-die attitude and a strong presence in the centre, despite not being one of the bigger guys in the water are Stephen Micallef’s characteristics. Stephen was crucial in Marsaskala’s two victories over rivals Marsaxlokk in just 4 days to win both the BOV First Division Knock Out and League, scoring 4 goals in Marsaskala’s 10-8 win in the Knock Out final.

Francesca Paolella’s high scoring and speed in the pool contributed to Sliema’s victory in the BOV Water Polo Women’s League. The swimming veteran also captained Sliema to the final of the BOV Women’s Knock Out Final losing by an odd goal to Exiles with Paolella scoring 4 of her team’s 9 goals.

Anthony Scicluna, Chief Officer at Bank of Valletta and Joe Caruana Curran, President of the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta presented the awards to the winners during the ASA’s Annual General Meeting. Unfortunately Stevie Camilleri could not be present to collect his award due to his commitments in Ortigia. The award was collected by Matthew Bonello. President of Neptunes Water Polo Club in his stead. Bank of Valletta also announced that they will be extending their sponsorship to the ASA for the 2016 season.
