I want to win the Group and advance to the next Futsal Cup Round – Florin Anton

Local champions ZC Excess Futsal Malta will be making their first ever international debut in the Preliminary Round Group B of the UEFA Futsal Cup for the 2010.11 season and their player coach Florin Anton believes that his team can make it to the next round.

Addressing a Press Conference organized by the Malta Futsal local champions at the Palace Hotel in Sliema, Florin Anton who came to Malta some years ago to play with Hamrun Spartans said that he is upbeat about his team’s encounters scheduled for next week at the Cottonera Sports Complex against domestic Futsal Champions from Finland, Albania and Denmark.

Anton who hails from Romania said that his team has been training for the past months on a regular basis with an average of four training sessions per week. The former Hamrun Spartans defender who has a passion nowadays for Futsal (indoor Football) said that he has brought over specifically for this Tournament three fellow compatriots from Romania, a player from Turkey together with Brazilian player Bassi  to be more competitive.

Mark Borg President of the Club who chaired the Press event said that this will be the first time that our country will host UEFA Futsal Cup Preliminary round games. Borg gave details about the other participating teams namely FS Ilves Tampere from Finland, BGA Futsal of Denmark and FK Tirana from Albania. The latter have been dominating the top division of Futsal in Albania for the past five seasons said Borg and it is not the first time that this team will play against a Maltese side. In fact KF Tirana played against Malta Champions Hibernians and White Eagles in the past. This Albanian side has also organized some training camps in our island. Borg said that the Danish side BGA Futsal have been crowned Futsal champions for three consecutive years in their country and have been participating regularly in the UEFA Futsal Cup. The Finish side on the other hand, are also a very competitive squad and over the past seasons they have managed also to go into the Main round of the Futsal Cup.

Norman Darmanin Demajo the newly elected President of the MFA who was present also for this Press event said that he was proud to have been one of the very first individuals to introduce the now popular 5 a side pitches with a very first investment way back at the St. Andrew’s Sports Complex facilities. He highlighted three important points in view of the continuous improvement of local Futsal. Darmanin Demajo said that the first priority was to recognize the importance of Futsal in the development of the game of football, making Futsal almost compulsory for kids wishing to play the game of football. The President’s second priority was to invest in the infrastructure of facilities. He said “We need to build new Futsal pitches both in Malta and Gozo”. His third and final priority for the future of the games was to support in full the people who have passion for the game of Futsal, concluded Darmanin Demajo in his first ever official Press Conference since he took the helm at MFA.

In his short address to the Press National coach Vic Hermans wished all the best of luck to the Maltese Champions ahead of the UEFA Futsal Cup Preliminary Round Group B. He went on to add that he is working very hard to continue the improvement of the game of Futsal in Malta. The Dutch coach said that the Malta National team has some friendly games schedule in view of the UEFA European qualifiers that will be played in January of next year. Malta will host Finland in October, whilst another friendly is set in November away against Libya. Hermanns’s squad will play the third and final International friendly game in December against Switzerland.

In the meantime ZC Excess Futsal have played a series of three friendly games in view of next week’s official encounters. The side led by Florin Anton played against local third Division Clubs namely against FC Trampi, Red Marleys and Todos FC winning all three games with great ease.
