Malta National team coaches John Buttigieg and Carmel Busuttil are busy preparing their players for the International friendly game against mighty Germany which is scheduled for this Thursday 13th May in Aachen, Germany.

Addressing a press conference to give details about this friendly game, John Buttigieg said that he is aware that the Malta team will be playing against one of the top European teams but he was confident that his players can offer good opposition with a fine and organized performance.

“We are all aware that we will play against a very strong team who is participating in the 2010 World Cup but I told my players that I will be using this game to continue developing the good work within the team ahead on the 2012 Qualifiers” commented Buttigieg.

Asked by the Times Sports editor Kevin Azzopardi why he opted to omit Valletta’s Gilbert Agius once again from the final 18 man squad, the Malta coach said “I am being asked the same question repeatedly…. together with my colleague Busuttil we can only choose 18 players for each match and we only choose those who at the moment we think can make it at International level” hinting between the lines that Agius will find it very difficult to be named again in the Malta squad at least for the time being.

When replying to a sportinmalta.com question about the physical condition of Daniel Bogdanovic and that of other locally based players, Buttigieg said that Daniel is fine. “He had some problems with his hamstring at Barnsley but now he is fully fit and is already here in Malta training with the team”

Missing from the Malta contingent, travelling tomorrow to Aachen via Dusseldorf, will be Ferencvaros player Andre Schembri who was not selected. Buttigieg also dropped the following four players from the last 22 men team: Mario Muscat, Kevin Sammut, Christian Caruana and Paul Fenech. Valletta’s Terrence Scerri is also out and he did not even feature in the team list when it was trimmed down to 22.
