For the first time in its long and prestigious history, the Royal Malta Golf Club Scratch Challenge was officially sponsored by HSBC Bank Malta. The Scratch Challenge which is one of the two main competitions in the local golfing calendar, was held on 24th and 25th March 2012 and was open to both experienced and budding golfers.

During two days of fine weather the Marsa golf course was teeming with very keen golfers who were greeted by HSBC staff upon registering for the event. They were then provided with HSBC-branded golf caps and score cards.

During the presentation ceremony which followed two days of intense and enjoyable golfing, Ian Macpherson, Captain of the Royal Malta Golf Club said: “We are very grateful for the generous support afforded by HSBC Malta and we are pleased to welcome this foremost corporate sponsor within the local golfing scene. Apart from funding the HSBC Scratch Challenge, the Bank will also be supporting the Junior Golf Academy including the Golf Academy International Tournament, to be held in late October 2012.”

This year’s HSBC Scratch Challenge was won by Andy Borg after netting 137, closely followed by Peter Satariano and Ruud Critien.

The trophy and prizes were presented by Chris Bond, Head of Global Banking and Markets at HSBC Malta. He stated that: “HSBC is truly proud to be supporting this prestigious event boasting a long history dating back to 1891. Golf is a signature sport for the HSBC Group and it certainly appeals to a large number of our top Premier customers.  HSBC sponsors golf all over the world ranging from high profile global tournaments to local events such as the Scratch Challenge, in the process working with local communities and youth academies. Furthermore with its worldwide appeal, golf fits well within HSBC’s position as the world’s leading international bank.

Finally Captain Macpherson invited all participants and guests for the final presentation dinner due on the 23 June 2012.
