In their first outing of the season, Hotsticks youths beat visiting UK side Cheltenham by five goals to two. Sliema opened the score as early as the first minute through Stefano Schembri. Three minutes later Silas Plaehn signed goal number two. Hotsticks took control of the game and with two counterattacks, in the 11th and 19th minute, they hit another two thanks to Dylan Grech.

In the second half Hotsticks gave space to the upcoming, twelve-year-old Stelmar kids. Vella Vidal gave a strong performance in midfield and Grech’s runs down the right flank were a constant threat to the opponents’ defence. It was however the girls’ side to pull two back in the second part before Dario Cacopardo sealed the result three minutes from the final whistle.
