Both teams did not take advantage of early scoring opportunities. However, in the 21st minute Lukas Plaehn netted from a penalty corner action to send Hotsticks into a 1 – 0 lead. Play was restricted to midfield exchanges for the remainder of the half but out of the blue in the 33rd minute Ryan Dalli received a pass in the D with his back to goal and netted with a delightful reverse hit to send Hotsticks into a 2 – 0 lead which they held until half time.

The second half started with a bang when Hotsticks were awarded a penalty stroke in the 38th minute but Steve Portelli saw his shot well saved by James Mizzi, Young Stars Keeper. This galvanized Young Stars into action and they exerted pressure on their opponents’ rearguard. In the 58th minute they were awarded a penalty stroke and Andrew Camilleri made no mistake from the spot to reduce the arrears. Hotsticks hung on to register victory by the odd goal in three in a rather exciting encounter.

Umpires: Luke Busuttil Leaver, Raymond Micallef
