Young Stars took the lead in the 11th minute when Mark Camilleri scored as a result of a penalty corner action; this after his team mate Andrew Camilleri had denied Hotsticks going ahead by deflecting a point blank shot over the bar.    A minute later Ryan Dalli equalized for Hotsticks when he picked up a deflection inside the D and pushed home.   On 16 minutes Jonathan Borg shot Hotsticks into a 2 -1 lead from a penalty corner action and on 20 minutes Hotsticks were awarded a penalty stroke which Shawn Grima converted.   The half time whistle blew with Hotsticks maintaining their 3 -1 lead.

At the beginning of the second half,  Young Stars missed a couple of opportunities to get back into the game but Hotsticks struck for a fourth time on 50 minutes when Alessandro Amore slotted home  from the centre of the D.  Young Stars were then awarded a penalty stroke and Andrew Camilleri missed a golden opportunity to score by hitting the ball well over the bar.  Hotsticks then went into a 5 -1 lead when Martijn Bal netted on 62 minutes.   Young Stars reduced the arrears on 65 minutes through Elton Cutajar but two minutes from the end Jonathan Borg notched his second sealing a merited 6 – 2 victory for Hotsticks,

Group B

Qormi Poiatti    7       Laferla White Hart   0

Qormi dominated this match from start to finish, easily overcoming a depleted  White Hart side.     They went ahead on 6 minutes when Juan Sarcia netted as a result of a penalty corner action hitting the ball  off the post  into the bottom corner.   Ayrton Falzon grabbed Qormi’s second on 12 minutes when he scored from an acute angle.   After White Hart’s David Agius cleared a certain goal bound effort off the line, Qormi went into a  3- 0 lead on 28 minutes when Keith Bajada lashed onto to a clearance and slotted home.   White Hart’s custodian Ramon Chricop denied Qormi going further ahead with a couple of blinding saves, Qormi maintaining the three goal lead at half time.

After a quiet start to the second half, when Qormi seemed content to control the match by retaining possession ,  on 49 minutes Chircop  made four point blank saves in succession to further deny Qormi.   Two minutes later Qormi were awarded a penalty stroke and again  Chircop denied Sarcia adding to his tally.   Sarcia then scored his second and Qormi’s fourth on 54 minutes as a result of a penalty corner action.  On 57 minutes Qormi were then awarded another penalty stroke and Sarcia netted to notch his hat trick and send his team 5- 0 up.    John Williams netted Qormi’s sixth on 60 minutes and Zachary de Giovanni rounded up the score on the stroke of time to give his side a 7-0 victory.
