Young Stars   1       Rabat  2       Umpires   Paul Brincat   Manuel Imbroll

Rabat won this intriguing encounter by the odd goal in three after Young Stars had taken the lead just over a minute after the start of the game.    In fact Mark Camilleri shot them into the lead as a result of a penalty corner awarded in the first attack of the match.   A period of midfield play followed with Rabat creating a half chance in the 13th minute and in the 19th minute they equalised when a shot from outside the D took a unfortunate deflection into the net off the Young Stars’ goalkeeper’s pads.   In the 25th minute Rabat went ahead  after a prolonged action in the D when Mario Galea picked up the pieces and pushed home to send Rabat into a 2 – 1 lead.   The half time whistle blew with the score unchanged as Rabat did not avail themselves of two penalty corners around the 30th minute.

Young Stars started the second half showing a greater sense of urgency and exerted constant pressure on the Rabat rear guard.   Rabat’s forays into the Young Stars’ half became few and far between and in the 51st minute, after a penalty corner action, Young Stars were awarded a penalty stroke but Edward Hughes pulled his shot wide of the post missing a golden chance to equalize.  From then  on Young Stars pressed hard but, despite winning five penalty corners in the space of six minutes, they were unable to breach Rabat’s defence.  The full time whistle blew leaving Rabat hanging on to their slender lead, crowning them as Challenge Cup Winners for 2013 – 2014
