Rabat  0     Qormi  1          Umpires:  Luke Busuttil Leaver   Manuel Imbroll

The first half of this game produced a stalemate in midfield with chances few and far between save for a couple of half chances which Qormi created around the 21st minute.    Rabat spurned a chance when a penalty corner was awarded to them in the 27th minute while Qormi won their first penalty corner on the stroke of half time, the whistle sounding with neither team being able to score.

The game opened up in the second period and in the 40th minute Rabat’s  Shawn Falzon missed a sitter for his team who later failed to take advantage of a penalty corner awarded to them two minutes later.   Qormi reacted and Keith Calleja missed an opportunity to shoot them ahead two minutes later.  After both teams failed to avail themselves of a penalty corner each Qormi went ahead in the 57th minute when a Calleja hit into the D was deflected into the Rabat net off a defender.  Rabat then exerted further territorial pressure but the Qormi defence held out to earn a hard fought 1 – 0 victory.

Hotsticks   0      Young Stars   3     Umpires:  Paul Brincat   Tony Azzopardi

This game provided early end-to-end exchanges but both defences were alert and it was not before the 9th minute that Hotsticks were awarded a penalty corner which was not availed of.   In the 15th minute Young Stars’ Mark Camilleri shot wide as a result of another penalty corner action.   After a period of midfield play, in the 25th minute Luke Borg Costanzi met a cross from the right and pushed it into the net to put Young Stars 1 – 0 up .    Hotsticks reacted and in the 32nd minute Young Stars’ defence cleared, with difficulty after a melee in the D to hang on to their slender lead when  half time was reached.

Six minutes into the second half Young Stars won a penalty corner and Camilleri picked his spot to shoot his team into a 2 – 0 lead.    True to form Hotsticks reacted strongly and James Mizzi was called upon to effect two saves to keep his goal intact in the 45th and 54th minutes respectively, the second instance responding to a flick from point blank range.   Hotsticks continued to exert constant pressure with Young Stars intent on defending their lead and counter attacking when the opportunity arose.  A couple of inviting crosses were not snapped up by Hotsticks and when a minute from time Young Stars were awarded a penalty corner, Camilleri grabbed his second goal to give his team a 3 – 0 victory.
