Qormi Poiatti    1     Floriana Young Stars   1

Umpires    Luke Busuttil Leaver      Raymond Micallef

This fixture was played at a high tempo and with intense commitment by both teams .    Qormi were awarded a penalty corner on 8 minutes and were denied going into the lead by Young Stars’ Andrew Camilleri who cleared off the line with his goalkeeper beaten.   Three minutes later Young Stars drew first blood when Mark Camilleri slammed a bullet into the net as a result of a penalty corner action.    Chances created were few and far between but on 21 minutes Qormi won a penalty corner and Juan Sarcia shot home to equalize.  Half time was reached with honours even at 1 – 1.

The second half turned into a fiery and feisty affair with Young Stars exerting early pressure and not taking advantage of two early penalty corner awards.   Qormi then went close through John Williams and 53 minutes Luke Borg Costanzi took on the whole Qormi defence and pushed the ball across the face of the goal but did not find any takers at the far post.  On 61 minutes Qormi did not avail themselves of a penalty corner award and  two  minutes  later, Mark Camilleri’s reverse hit shot shaved Qormi’s far post.    Although Young Stars won three penalty corners in the final three minutes they were not able to break down Qormi’s defence, the game ending in a 1 – 1 draw.

Umpires     John Williams    Reno Cremona

Lightshop Hotsticks dominated this game from start to finish using their possession tactics to the full against a depleted White Hart outfit missing several first team players.    Jonathan Borg shot Hotsticks into the lead on 5 minutes but it was not until the 21st  minute that Alessandro Amore pounced onto a rebound off the goalkeepers pads to send his team 2 – 0 up.   White Hart were providing a strong defensive display but on 34 minutes Hotsticks were awarded a penalty stroke and Shawn Grima scored  Hotsticks’ third from the spot.   White Hart hit back and Carl Tua netted on the stroke of half time leaving Hotsticks to lead 3 -1 at the end of the first half.

The second half saw a change of tactics with White Hart pushing a couple of players into midfield while Hotsticks continued to exert constant pressure down the right flank providing teasing crosses for their forwards in the centre of the D.  On 41 minutes Julian Zahra grabbed Hotsticks fourth goal, with Borg scoring his second and his team’s fifth three minutes later.     Amore scored his second on 50 minutes to send Hotsticks 6 – 1 ahead and on 68 minutes Grima shot a screamer into the top of the net sending his team into a 7 -1 victory
