Lightshop Hotsticks   3     Young Stars    2

Umpires   Luke Busuttil Leaver   Paul Brincat

Matches between these two teams guarantee intriguing encounters and this was no exception.   Young Stars went ahead as early as the first minute when Christian Bonello shot home. They continued exerting pressure on the Hotsticks rearguard by dominating proceedings in midfield and on 13 minutes Bonello grabbed his second to send Young Stars into a two goal lead.  On 22 minutes Hotsticks pulled one back when, on a swift break from midfield, Christian Sammut netted with a strong cross shot from the top left side of the D. The half time whistle sounded with Young Stars retaining their 2 – 1 lead.

Five minutes into the second half Steve Portelli drove home to level the score at 2 – 2 as a result of a penalty corner action.    Young Stars then exerted considerable pressure coming close to adding to their tally on a number of occasions and not availing themselves of four penalty corner awards around the 50 minute mark.   On 58 minutes James Mizzi, the Young Stars custodian kept his goal intact with a reflex save.  After Young Stars hit the cross bar on 65 minutes, when the game seemed to be moving towards a draw, with less than a minute remaining, Hotsticks were awarded a penalty corner and Portelli netted to give a 3 – 2 victory to his team.

Rabat    1      Laferla White Hart    4

Umpires    James Mizzi    Shawn Mifsud

The first twenty minutes of this game saw both sides probing each other’s defences without being able to open the score.  On 25 minutes White Hart’s Lombardi hit the post after meeting a cross from the right flank.   Three minutes later Harry Heyes netted, sending White Hart into a one goal lead with a shot into the top corner of the net.   On 30 minutes Heyes scored his second to send White Hart into a two goal lead which they maintained until half time.

Rabat fought hard to come back into the game in the second period, but after David Agius hit the post for White Hart with a cracker from the top of the D, on 50 minutes Paul Torpiano shot White Hart into a 3 – 0 lead.   White Hart increased their tally to 4 – 0 two minutes later when Charlo Sammut pushed home from close range after melee in the Rabat D.   Rabat were then awarded a penalty stroke on 65 minutes and James Azzopardi scored from the spot to reduce the arrears, the whistle blowing leaving White Hart winners by a 4 – 1 margin.
