As league deciders go this definitely lived up to its billing and provided a classic.   The game swung to and from and was finally decided in the fifth minute of the first period of extra time when Jonathan Borg slotted the winner for Qormi.

Before both teams settled into a rhythm Young Stars drew first blood in the second minute, when Mark Camilleri netted as a result of penalty corner action.   Not to be outdone two minutes later Qormi equalised when Juan Sarcia scored again as a result of a penalty corner action.   Young Stars then piled on the pressure but did not capitalize from four penalty corners awarded to them.    In the 32nd minute Jonathan Borg shot Qormi ahead giving them  a 2 – 1 lead which they held up to the half time whistle .

After early Young Stars pressure at the start of the second half Qormi went further ahead in the 44th minute when Juan Sarcia netted his second goal and Qormi’s third.   This instigated an immediate come back from Young Stars with Edward Hughes pulling one back in the 48th minute and Marvin Vella equalizing five minutes later.   Both teams tried hard to win the game in normal time but there was no change to the score by the end of the match, and the game went into extra time.

Most of the exchanges in the first period of extra time took place in mid field but in the 5th minute Jonathan Borg scored Qormi’s fourth which proved to be the winner although Young Stars tried hard by winning four penalty corners in the second period of extra time to no avail, giving Qormi their fourth championship victory in a row.
