It took just eight minutes for this game to herald the intensity it afforded later, when Mark Camilleri shot Young Stars into the lead as a result of a penalty corner action. Both teams then missed half chances around the 12th minute mark and in the 19th minute Qormi,s Kyle Micallef fluffed a goal scoring chance. In the 28th minute Ramon Chricop flung himself to the right to push the ball away while in mid air saving his side from going further behind. Keith Calleja then missed a sitter for Qormi in the 31st minute lifting his shot over the bar from close range. Half time was reached with Young Stars holding on to their one goal lead.

The position remained unchanged until the 45th minute when Qormi were awarded a penalty stroke and Juan Sarcia slotted home from the spot to equalize. Three minutes later Thomas Degiovanni broke through on the right and beat the Young Stars keeper with a well placed cross shot sending Qormi into a 2 – 1 lead. Thrills were never in short supply during this game and in the 53rd minute it was Young Stars who were awarded a penalty stroke and Andrew Camilleri calmly slotted home to equalize. The game provided another twist when in the 62nd minute Qormi were awarded another penalty stroke and Sarcia scored his second goal to send Qormi into a 3 – 2 lead. Young Stars did their utmost but could not break down Qormi’s defence despite winning two short corners in the dying minutes the final whistle blowing with Qormi emerging winners of this intriguing encounter.

After a period of early Hotsticks’ pressure when they fluffed a couple of goal scoring chances by the 10th minute White Hart crept back into the game but did not take advantage of four short corners awarded to them between the 16th and 29th minutes. On 32 minutes Hotsticks went ahead when Julian Zahra pushed home finishing off a move down the right flank – a lead which they held up to half time.

Six minutes into the second half Steve Portelli shot Hotstickis 2 – 0 ahead and in the 45th minute Portelli grabbed his second and Hotsticks’ third when his shot took a deflection and flew into the net. Five minutes later Hotsticks were awarded a penalty stroke and Luca Sciusco scored their fourth from the spot. At this stage the game was over as a contest, the final whistle sounding with the score remaining unchanged.
