Floriana Young Stars  5   Laferla White Hart   0

Umpires   Manuel Imbroll    Andre Ghio

Young Stars exerted early pressure on the White Hart rear guard but they did not take advantage of three penalty corner awards in the opening twelve minutes.    It took until the 21stminute for them to break the deadlock when Edward Hughes pushed home from close range to send his team into a 1 – 0 lead.  Although Young Stars dominated proceedings they were unable to break down the White Hart defence, the half time whistle blowing with the score unchanged.

After White Hart did not avail themselves of a couple of penalty corners early in the second half, on 49 minutes Christian Bonello shot Young Stars 2 – 0 ahead.   On 55 minutes Nathan Galea rounded the White Hart’s custodian and slotted home his side’s number three.  On 60 minutes Elton Cutajar netted Young Stars fourth and on 65 minutes Galea extended his side’s tally scoring his second and Young Stars’ fifth just before the final whistle sounded.

Rabat Depiro     2     Qormi Poiatti    7

Umpires   Raymond Micallef    James Mizzi

Qormi went into the lead within the first minute when Steve Tanti shot home but Rabat struck back immediately and drew level when Charlot Antonelli netted before two minutes of the game had elapsed.   Tanti grabbed his second on ten minutes and on 15 minutes Kyle Micallef hit a delightful reverse hit shot sending Qormi into a 3 – 1 lead.   Two minutes later Juan Sarcia grabbed Qormi’s fourth as a result of a penalty corner action, a lead they held until the half time whistle blew.

Three minutes into the second half John Williams pushed home from close range to extend Qormi’s lead to 5 – 1 but on 51 minutes Antonelli broke away to grab Rabat’s second goal.   A minute later Qormi were awarded a penalty stroke and Sarcia made no mistake from the spot to score his sides’s sixth goal.   Williams scored his second and his side’s seventh just before the final whistle giving Qormi a 7 – 2 victory.

Floriana Young Stars    2    Rabat Depiro   0

Umpires  Manuel Imbroll    John Williams

Chances early on were few and far between with both defences on top.   Young Stars adopted their possession tactics while Rabat defended in depth using counter attacks down the flanks.  Both teams were awarded three penalty corners each but did not take advantage of the opportunities provided.   Most of the play was conducted in midfield with no quarter asked or given, the half time whistle blowing with the score deadlocked at 0 -0.

In the second half the game ebbed and flowed with gaps opening as both teams did their utmost, with Young Stars being more incisive in their attacks down the right flank.   In fact many inviting crosses were not finished off by their forwards.   Rabat’s counter attacks also spelt menace and on two occasions it was Young Stars’ Andrew Camilleri who saved the day with two timely last ditch tackles.  On 53 minutes Young Stars were awarded a penalty corner and Shaun Falzon, trying to save in estremis with his goalkeeper beaten, inadvertently made bodily contact with the ball before it crossed the dreaded line constituting a penalty stroke in favour of his opponents.     Camilleri stepped up and pushed the ball from the penalty spot  high into the top of the net sending Young Stars into a 1 – 0 lead.

Rabat doubled their efforts to get back into the game and went very close on a couple of occasions –  one particular Kevin Micallef cross shot from the top of the D just shaving the far post.   Young Stars then broke away in the final minute catching the Rabat defence  upfield and Elton Cutajar shot home  to give his team a 2 – 0 victory.
