History in the making in Winter Olympics

7th February 2014 remains an important date in the history of sport in Malta.

It marks the Opening of the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi and Malta’s first ever participation in Winter Olympics. Elise Pellegrin , flag bearer for the Malta contingent during the parade of nations will be making her debut in Sochi on February 18th for the first run of the giant slalom at the Rhosa Khutor Centre.

Pellegrin will be again in action on the 21st February in the women’s slalom.

Prior to the Opening Ceremony, the Malta contingent led by chef de mission Dr.Lucienne Attard, together with Maltese Olympic Committee President Mr. Julian Pace Bonello and Secretary General Joseph Cassar were greeted at the Olympic Village by Mayor Svetlana Zhurova, former gold medalist for Russia in the 500m speed skating in Turin.
