L-atleta u intraprenditur Nathan Farrugia għal darb’oħra ser jidħol għal sfida tassew iebsa sabiex jiġbor fondi għal tliet organizzazzjonijiet ta’ karità li jgħinu lil tfal fil-bżonn.

Magħruf għall-isfidi diffiċli tiegħu, din is-sena Nathan ser jimxi fuq il-passi ta’ Pheidippides – l-ewwel raġel li ġera ultramaratona fis-sena 490 Qabel Kristu.

Pheidippides ġera 246km minn Maratona sa Ateni biex jagħti l-aħbar ta’ rebħa militari kontra l-Persjani. Il-leġġenda tgħid li malli Pheidippides wasal fid-destinazzjoni tiegħu u ta l-aħbar tajba, minnufih waqa’ u miet.

“Kull sena nistennew bil-ħerqa biex naraw l-idea li se joħroġ biha Nathan Farrugia,” qalu r-rappreżentanti tal-organizzazzjonijiet.  “U kull sena jissorprendina bi sfida akbar. Hija din l-attitudni u t-tenaċità ta’ Nathan li tul is-snin għenu biex jinġabru mijiet ta’ eluf ta’ Euro għal diversi kawżi tajbin. Aħna ħerqana li naraw lil Nathan ilesti l-isfida ta’ din is-sena u jerġa’ lura lejn daru qawwi u sħiħ. Aħna ċerti li ser jibda bħal Pheidippides iżda li ser jispiċċa kif ikun hu s-soltu – eżawrit, sodisfatt u b’biżżejjed fondi biex jagħmel differenza lil ħafna ħajjiet.”

Nathan qed jippjana li jtemm l-ultramaratona tiegħu f’36 siegħa ta’ ġiri mingħajr waqfien. Il-flus li ser jinġabru ser imorru għall-Fondazzjoni Inspire, Ra1se u Cystic Fibrosis Malta.  Dawn it-tliet organizzazzjonijiet kollha jagħmlu differenza fil-ħajjiet ta’ mijiet ta’ tfal b’diżabilità, b’mard rari, u li jgħixu fil-faqar. L-għan ta’ Nathan hu li jgħinhom ikunu ta’ għajnuna għal aktar nies permezz ta’ din l-isfida.

“Sabiex tassew insibu s-sens f’dak li nagħmlu, jeħtieġ li nsibu skop aktar profond, lil hinn mill-pjaċir,” qal Nathan Farrugia. “Jien ngħaqqad l-imħabba tiegħi għal sfidi estremi mal-opportunità li niġbor fondi u nqajjem l-għarfien dwar għajnuna għal ħaddieħor. Jien inħeġġeġ lil kulħadd biex juża l-passjoni tiegħu sabiex jagħmel differenza lill-persuni ta’ madwaru, meta dan ikun possibbli. M’inix ċert li ser jirnexxili nispiċċa din id-darba, iżda ċert li se nagħmel ħilti kollha!”

Biex tgħin lil Nathan u fl-aħħar mill-aħħar lill-Fondazzjoni Inspire, Cystic Fibrosis u RA1SE, tista’ tagħmel donazzjoni fuq www.inspire.org.mt jew permezz ta’ SMS. Ikteb ‘one for all’ fit-test u ibagħtu fuq 50618962 biex tagħti €6.99 jew 50619215 biex tagħti €11.65.

Pushing the limits for charity

Nathan Farrugia attempts 246km in 36 hours of non-stop running

Ultrarunner and entrepreneur Nathan Farrugia will once again be embarking on an ultra physical challenge to fundraise for three charities that help children in need.

Known for his outrageous challenges, this year Nathan will be following in the steps of Pheidippides – the first man to run an ultra marathon back in 490BC.

Pheidippides ran 246km from Marathon to Athens to deliver news of a military victory against the Persians. Legend has it that as soon as Pheidippides arrived to his destination and delivered the good news, he promptly dropped dead.

“Every year we wait with bated breath to see what Nathan Farrugia will come up with,” said the charities’ representatives.  “And every year he surprises us with wild dares that seem to defy nature. It is this attitude and Nathan’s tenacity that over the years has raised hundreds of thousands of Euro for good causes.  We look forward to seeing Nathan complete this year’s challenge and come back home safe and sound. We are certain that he will start off like Pheidippides but that he will finish like himself – exhausted, satisfied and with enough funds to make a difference in many lives.”

Nathan plans to finish this ultra marathon in 36 hours of non-stop running. The money raised will go to The Inspire Foundation, Ra1se and Cystic Fibrosis Malta.  All three make a real difference to the lives of hundreds of children with, disability, rare disease, and poverty. Nathan’s goal is to enable them to help more people through this ultra challenge.

“To really find meaning in what we do, we need to find a deeper purpose beyond enjoyment,” explained Nathan Farrugia. “I mix my love for pushing the extreme, with the opportunity to raise funds and awareness to help others. I encourage everyone to use their passions to make a difference to people around them, whenever possible. I’m not sure I can finish this time, but I’m certainly going to try! “

To support Nathan and ultimately the Inspire Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis and RA1SE, donations can be made on www.inspire.org.mt or via SMS. Write ‘one for all’ in the text and send to 50618962 to donate €6.99 or 50619215 to donate €11.65.
