Following on from a short winter break, the first Division handball league returned. And now with another 14 matches to go, the league table is starting to sort itself.

A top the pile sit reigning champions La Salle Rivareno, who hold a 2 point lead over joint second placed Luxol and Aloysians Von Taine, while Swieqi Phoenix and Kavallieri RS2 sit 6 points adrift in forth and fifth place. Right at the other end of the table, Sayitmalta HMS are still searching for their first points this campaign.

The first round of matches of the championship has been appealing. After what has so far been almost a perfect season for La Salle, who have powered their way into first place, show no sign of letting their grasp on the title slip. Last Saturday, La Salle gained maximum points against Swieqi Phoenix whereas Luxol and Aloysians, the other two leading teams challenged each other and dropped valuable points as the match ended in stalemate.

Kavallieri, haven’t quite had the start to the season that everyone dreamed of. Three defeats this campaign has prompted many to already rule them out from the title race. Their win against HMS kept their hope alive among the Kavallieri faithful. They are due to meet Aloysians in their next fixture.

HMS, will try to start off the second round in good fashion. They face league leaders La Salle. La Salle are aware that a win would send then 5 points clear, increasing the pressure on their chasers. Luxol start as favorites to pick up the 3 points against Swieqi Phoenix.
