Kavallieri RS2 enjoyed an unforgettable afternoon as La Salle Rivareno were disposed of in remarkable fashion, with the Lasallians conceding 31 goals, setting the first division title race wide open. Aloysians Von Taine secured top spot after beating Swieqi Phoenix Menrad 34 – 19. Luxol will continue to fight tooth and nail for the league title. They dominated Sayitmalta HMS with the encounter ending 34 – 26.

In the first match of day 8, Luxol, beat HMS without difficulty to secure their fifth win of the season. The match started on a flowing and balanced pace with both sets of players’ cancelling each others goals. However, Luxol managed to steadily build a lead and take a 3 goal advantage going into the interval. After the break, Luxol maintained control. HMS tried to fight their way back but never managed to keep up with their opponents.

Aloysians’ left back, Alex Di Pilato, scored 10 goals as “the reds” cruised to a 34 – 19 win against Swieqi. Swieqi started off weakly as they were finding it difficult to shield their goal area and get the ball past Aloysians’ keeper, Andre’ Borg, who produced wonderful saves. Swieqi improved after the interval; however, Aloysians maintained total control on the game.

Kavallieri started energetically with some tough defending, in an effort to prevent La Salle from having time and space to exploit their usual fast passing game. They managed to steadily build a lead and take a 9-goal advantage in the first 15 minutes. After the break, Kavallieri maintained control. There was no dramatic come back from the First Division champions and the final buzzer was greeted with celebrations by the Kavallieri faithful. Kavallieri goalkeeper, Daniel Gauci, was a key part of Kavallieri’s turnaround in form. Gauci made crucial saves in the 31 – 26 win.
