Handball – Aloysians win, leaders La Salle win vital points against Luxol

Aloysians Von Taine secured second position after beating Sayitmalta HMS 33 – 18. In the match of the week between the top two teams, La Salle Rivareno dominated Luxol with the encounter ending 43 – 20. Swieqi Phoenix Menrad surprised high flying Kavallieri RS2, as they ran out 22 – 20 winners.

 

In the first match of day 7, Aloysians, without difficulty beat HMS to secure their fifth win of the season. The match was rather balanced initially with Aloysians leading by just 2 goals in the first 20 minutes. Aloysians improved their defense and raised their scoring rhythm. HMS tried to fight their way back but never managed to keep up with Aloysians.

 

La Salle’s Hungarians players, Kriztian Olschleger and Gabor Vadazi, scored 8 goals each as La Salle cruised to a 43 – 20 win in opposition to Luxol. Luxol started off poorly as they were finding it difficult to get the ball past La Salle keeper John Scicluna. They improved after the interval, however, only for the La Sallians to have the final say.

 

Swieqi Phoenix moved into forth after they came from behind to beat Kavallieri 22 – 20.

The match started on a flowing and balanced pace with both sets of players’ cancelling each others goals. However, Kavallieri managed to steadily build a lead and take a 5 goal advantage going into the interval. After the break, Kavallieri maintained control but Swieqi’s talented youngsters stormed back and drew level on the 50 minute. During the last 10 minutes, Swieqi surged ahead and maintained a 2 goal lead throughout the rest of the encounter.
