Handball: Aloysians and La Salle seal the season with knock-out victories

Fil-Finali tan-Knock out tan-nisa La Salle għelbu lit-tim ta’ Aloysians bl’iskor ta’ 29-23.

La Salle kienu għal ħafna ħin superjuri fejn gawdew vantaġġ ta’ erbgħa gols mill-bidu nett tal-logħhba fejn saħansitra kabbruh lejn tmiem il- logħba.

L-ewwel taqsima spiccat 11-8 favur La Salle.

Il-player ta’ La Salle Diana Huscko, gie vvutata bhala l-ahjar player tal- logħba.

Iz-zewg ufficjali tal-logħba kienu Alan Grima u Stefan Desira.

Fit-tieni Final dik tal-irgiel, Aloysians għelbu lil Luxol bl-iskor ta’ 24-23. Aloysians fethu tajjeb il-logħob u mill-ewwel marru fil-vantagg li izda ma damux igawduh għaliex Luxol malajr dawwru ir-rizultat favur tagħhom li baqqgħu igawduh sa’ l-ahhar hinijiet tal-logħhba.Bil-coach tal-Aloysians Matthew Mamo jgħajjat time out li ta’ zvolta totalment differenti u minn telfa jdawwar il-logħba f’rebha. Kien Damien Gargano li fl-ahhar sekondi dawwar il-ballun għal ġewwa fost il-ferħ tal-players, diriġenti u s- supporters, biex pattew għad-dizzapunt li kellhom kontra lis-stess Luxol fid-decider għar-rebħ tal-kampjonat.

L-ewwel taqsima spiccat 13-12 favur Luxol. Il-player tal-logħba kien Alex Di Pilato.

Iż-żewġ ufficjali tal-logħba kienu Stefan Desira u Alan Grima.

Wara l-logħba is-Segretarju Parlamentari s-Sur Chris Agius ipprezenta it- trofew lil captain tat-tim tal-Aloysians Philip Mifsud.

Aloysians and La Salle seal the season with knock-out victories.

In the women’s category La Salle Rivareno ended their season on a positive note by claim- ing the ‘double’ after beating Aloysians Zmerc. In the men’s category, Aloysians Von Taine secured the knockout trophy following a sensational victory against Luxol.

In the first final, La Salle Rivareno faced Aloysians Zmerc. La Salle started the match on a flowing and balanced pace. They took matters in hand and dominated from early stages with a solid and talented performance. Aloysians tried to fight their way back but La Salle kept the same standards throughout the match thanks to some great defending and well taken goals from Diana Husko, Kami Dobracheva and Kristina Kalla. La Salle’s experience proved vital as the team led by Daniel Tabone managed to beat their opponents 29-23.

Malta Handball Association President, Mr Louis Borg, presented the trophy to La Salle’s captain Yvonne Barry.

In the men’s final, league champions Luxol faced off against rivals Aloysians. The first half was played at a fast pace with Aloysians displaying good handball despite Luxol’s marginal lead by half time. Aloysians Von Taine produced a fine display of handball in the second half. With just 4 minutes remaining for the full time whistle, the score tied 23-all, thanks to a spectacular goal by Damian Gargano, Aloysians went on to secure their 8th knock out trophy in men’s senior handball by beating Luxol 24-23.

Hon. Chris Agius MP – Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youth and Sport presented the trophy to Aloysians captain Philip Mifsud.
