Hamrun’s superb start of the season was halted by Sliema Wanderers thanks to an organised team fielded by Coach Mark Marlow and thanks to a brace by Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza in the last 30 minutes of the game. Hamrun went a goal down when ex-Obielfule drove himself inside the opponent’s area after he managed to avoid Roderick Fenech’s offside trap. Assistant Philip Agius was well placed in the occasion and kept his flag down, as Obinna Obiefule shot past keeper Casha for the Blues’s first goal on the 18th minute mark.

Exactly after one hour of play Hamrun’s Massimo Grima levelled the score as he headed home a corner, which goal was accompanied by the celebrations of the hundreds of Spartans supporters.

Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza was given the green light to enter the field of play by Marlow a decision which was not well perceived well by the Sliema fans since Triganza had only arrived in Malta two days earlier since he was on honeymoon. Marlow’s decision to include Triganza in his standard 4-1-4-1 formation proved right as the ex-Birkirkara striker scored two goals in the 80th and 90th minute of the game thus giving Sliema the full points.

Marsaxlokk score their first goal

In Sunday’s first match Marsaxlokk managed to register their first full points thanks to a penalty transformed by substitute Julio Alcorse who sent Floriana in deeper trouble as the greens are now almost at the bottom of the standings with just three points from three games.

This was the first time that Patrick Curmi’s players managed to find the opponent’s net after ending their first two encounters with goalless draws. On the other hand Floriana seem to have not yet found their ideal starting line up as Bulgarian coach Raykov opted to leave both green talismans Christian Caruana and Christian Cassar on the bench utilising them only in the second part of the game.

The penalty that decided the game was awarded by Referee Alan Mario Sant after Sacha Borg tackled Kokkavessis inside the penalty area. From the eleven meter mark Julio Alcorse assumed full responsibility to strike the ball home.

Marsaxlokk. R.Gauci, C.Mamo, G.Sciberras, C.Brincat, M.Deanov (D.Kokavessis 61min), M.Licari (A.Spiteri 90min), A.Effiong, R. Galabov, T.Templeman, E.Yanchev, R. Guerero (J.Alcorse 78min)
