Hamrun signs Heiner Backhaus

Hamrun Spartans have signed German defensive midfielder Heiner Backhaus on a free transfer, the Maltese club announced on Friday night.

The former Valletta midfielder signed a one year contract after successful talks with president Daniel Sullivan and coach Jesmond Zammit

The Twenty nine year old return to Malta after some indifferent spells in Cyprus and Germany.

Meanwhile Hamrun Spartans target Adam Smeir decide to stay with Rabat Ajax after he was just minutes away to sign for the Spartans.

Defender Yessous Camilleri may also stay another year with the Magpies after a successful loan last season. The Valletta defender is target of Hamrun and Hiberians.

Mark Anthony Bonnici and Neville Galea transfer listed

In the meantime Hamrun Spartans have decided to put on their transfer list two of their defenders Mark Anthony Bonnici and Neville Galea. The news was made official at the MFA Council where it was also confirmed that the Spartans have also punished Omar Borg (who was with them on loan from Birkirkara last season) by fining him EUR100 after he allegedly insulted the Referee of the Second Division Knock Out match between Naxxar and Zejtun.
