GSSE 2017: ASA is very proud of all the swimmers

The ASA is very proud of all the swimmers who participated in the GSSE in San Marino and the National Coach Artem Goncharenko was satisfied with the results achieved. This was the biggest contingent of swimmers who ever participated in this competition and the selection consisted of both young and experienced athletes. Below are the results of all the races:-

Mya Azzopardi

• 200m Individual Medley 2:26.81 National & Age Group D Record

Qualified 4th for Final with a time of 2:27.67 which was a PB for Mya by 2.18s, an Age Group D Record previously held at 2:29.85 by Mya herself since last April in Tal Qroqq and also a National Record which was previously held by Gail Rizzo and was achieved at Tal-Qroqq in May 1997.

• 100m Backstroke 1:06.82 National & Age Group D Record

Age Group D record was previously held at 1:08.15 by Nikki Muscat since December 2010 in Tal Qroqq. National Record was previously held by Nikki Muscat at 1:07.46 achieved at TalQroqq in April 2011.


Michael Umnov

• 200m Butterfly 2:04.73 Silver Medal & National Record

This was previously held by Ryan Gambin at 2:07.28 and was achieved in Luxembourg in June 2008.


Andrew Chetcuti

• 100m Freestyle 0:51.47 Bronze Medal

• 50m Freestyle 0:23.05 Silver Medal


Thomas Wareing

• 100m Backstroke 1:01.68 Personal Best

• 400m Individual Medley 4:45.82 National Record

Previously at 4:48.85 held by Edward Caruana Dingli achieved in Gzira in March 2015.


Francesca Falzon Young

• 50m Freestyle 0:27.12 Age Group D Record

Previously held by Nikki Muscat since December 2010 achieved in Tal-Qroqq.


Matthew Zammit

• 50m Freestyle 0:23.36 Bronze Medal


Michael Stafrace

• 100m Breaststroke 1:05.23 Bronze Medal & Personal Best


Matthew Galea, Mikhail Umnov, Thomas Wareing, Andrew Chetcuti

• 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay 7:48.02 National Record

Finished 4th – previously held by Andrea Agius, Edward Caruana Dingli, Mark Sammut and Neil Agius and achieved in Liechtenstein in June 2011.


Mya Azzopardi, Amy Micallef, Leah Tanti, Francesca Falzon Young

• 4 x 100m Medley Relay 4:26.92 National Record

Previously held at 4:29.38 by Mya Azzopardi, Amy Micallef, Charis Ceccarelli and Francesca Falzon Young and achieved in Tal Qroqq in April 2017.


Thomas Wareing, Michael Stafrace, Mikhail Umnov, Andrew Chetcuti

• 4 x 100m Medley Relay 3:52.58 Bronze Medal & National Record

Previously held at 3:57.91 by Matthew Galea, Michael Stafrace, Mikhail Umnov and Matthew Zammit and achieved in Tal-Qroqq in April 2017.


Andrew Chetcuti, Matthew Galea, Mikhail Umnov, Matthew Zammit

• 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay 3:28.88 Bronze Medal & National Record

Previously held at 3:30.93 by Andrew Chetcuti, Matthew Galea, Gabriel Dimech and Raoul Stafrace and was achieved in Tal-Qroqq in April 2016.
