Government aid to Sports Sector

The Aquatic Sports Association of Malta would like to thank the Government for including the sports sector in the COVID Wage Supplement Scheme. This will help soften the blow water polo and swimming clubs have received following the closure of the National Pool as well as the catering establishments they operate on their premises. This pandemic hitting Malta at this time of the year seriously compromises the coming water polo season and swimming competitions. Furthermore, it will also negatively impact on the finances of all clubs and their employees including players, coaches and anyone else involved. Water Polo is the sport that makes Malta proud and the clubs which produce such athletes deserve this assistance.

Joe Caruana Curran, ASA President, on behalf of all member clubs is truly grateful to the Hon Clifton Grima for his immediate intervention and support, following which, the activities of sports clubs, the operation of sports facilities, sports and fitness facilities and other sports activities were included in the Scheme.

Meanwhile, communication has also been established with SportMalta CEO Mark Cutajar to discuss some proposals the ASA has drafted internally and the association is confident that, as always, it will find full cooperation in agreeing further measures which will alleviate the foreseeable difficulties.
