Under 15 Knock Out Competition

Last 16

Section A teams eliminated by Section B teams

Hamrun S   0

Birkirkara    2

Section B leaders Birkirkara eliminated Hamrun S who compete in Section A. The result might seem  a surprise but it was no surprise at all as the Stripes were the better outfit during the whole 70 minutes of play. The Stripes will now cross swords against Floriana who immediately following this game also eliminated Paola H who compete in Section A.

The Stripes enjoyed the lion’s share of exchanges during both periods as they created more actions than Hamrun and they opened the score as early as the 6th minute when they won a corner kick on the left flank which was well-taken by Ayrton Attard and as the ball was partly cleared outside the area it came in the path of Kyle Mifsud who got his left foot to it and first-timed it in the bottom right hand corner past Hamrun keeper Jake Taliana.

In the first action by Hamrun Cain Cutajar served Miguel Simiana with a cross from the left flank but he missed the bar by inches from outside the area.

The reaction by the Stripes was very immediate as they created all the actions up the half time whistle. Gianluca Zammit square-passed the ball to Karl Caruana  and he missed and he missed the upright from outside the area. A flag kick by Attard created havoc in the Spartans area but  somehow Taliana managed to neutralise the ball. Attard then dribbled past an opponent and after serving Zammit with a perfect square pass the latter missed the bar by inches from outside the area and from another well-taken flag kick by Attard, Caruana headed slightly out from inside the area.

In the last action before the break Birkirkara were denied by the wood work when Zammit dribbled past an opponent on the edge of the area and from his shot the ball thumped the upright with Taliana completely beaten.

The second period was more action-packed and as in the first period most of the actions were created by Birkirkara and Hamrun created only two actions.

Neil Micallef served Cauana with a through ball and Hamrun defender Cain Cutajar foiled him with a perfect timely tackle.

In the 42nd minute Birkirkara were denied a penalty when Micallef released Caruana in the area and as he was pushed from behind the referee saw nothing wrong, and in another action by Birkirkara Kyle Mifsud dribbled past an opponent on the left flank and after serving Attard in the area Jeremy Busuttil blocked his close-range effort.

In Hamrun’s first action they won a corner kick on the right flank  which was well-taken by Friggieri creating havoc in the Stripes area the ball was cleared away to safety.

In the 49th minute Birkirkara doubled their lead when Jordan Sciberras dribbled past an opponent on the right flank and Caruana scored with a hard drive from inside the area after his perfect cross.

Hamrun won a corner kick in midfield and Striped keeper Clyde Aquilina saved the hard drive by Busuttil in two attempts.

Birkirkar resumed with their pressing and mounted three more actions before the final whistle. Substitute Miguel Amato was fouled outside the area and after the ball was partly cleared outside the area from the free kick by Nicholas Farrugia, Taliana was forced to dive and save to a corner the rebound shot by Attard. Sciberras dribbled past two opponents outside the area and after serving Zammit with a square pass the latter missed the upright from the edge of the area and the same palyer then dribbled past an opponent on the right flank and adfter serving substitute Gilmar Sammut with a cross he missed the upright by inches from outside the area.
