Under 15 Knock Out Competition
First Round
Sliema W     5
Zejtun           0
Zejtun managed to hold Sliema for a goalles draw in the first period by grim defending as they packed their own half and penalty area but the constant pressure by the Blues after the resumption proved to be too much for Zejtun who manged only two shots at goal throghout the 70 minutes one of which came from a free kick. Sliema will now cross swords against Mosta in the last 16 Stage.
Sliema created all the chances in the first period.Miguel Mifsud was fouled outside the area and Zejtun keeper Matthew Caruana saved the free kick shot by Kurt Shaw.Luke Borg released Mark Desira in the area and Caruana foiled him as he dived at his feet and smothered the ball. Desira served Clyde Bonnici with a through ball and after the latter returned the compliment to Nevin Portelli in the area he drove slightly over the bar.
The Blues resumed with their pressing. Alessio Azzopardi pounced on a loose ball outside the area and the ball thumped the bar from his hard drive with Caruana beaten. Mifsud then dribbled past two opponents on the left flank and missed the bar by inches after entering the area. Shaw dribbled past two opponents and served Desira in the area and the ball was cleared to a corner from his shot and two minutes before the break Azzopardi committed the “miss-of-the-match” when he drove over the bar from two metres after a Borg perfect through ball
The first action after the restart was created by Sliema as Shaw served Mifsud in the area and after Caruana partly saved his shot the ball was cleared away by a defender.
In the first action by Zejtun Jurgen Galea released Craig Curmi in the area and Sliema keeper Edward Gatt, who had an easy Sunday morning, turned the ball to a corner.
Sliema forged ahead in the 42nd minute after a choral move between three players. Clyde Bonnici served Desira with a through ball on the right flank who then served Nathan Montebello with a cross in the area who netted with a hard rising shot.
In another action by Sliema substitute Matthew Pulis served Borg in the area and after Caruana partly saved his shot the ball was cleared away to safety.
The score became 2-0 in the 55th minute when substitute Lee Pisani entered the area after beating an opponent and served Montebello with a square pass who scored with a hard low drive, and two minutes later Sliema scored a third goal as Pulis, after dribbling past an opponent on the left flank served Mifsud with a cross in the area and he scored with a spectacular over-head kick.
In a rare action by Zejtun Galea was fouled on the right flank and Gatt saved the free kick shot by Isaac Baldacchino.
Sliema kept trying for more and scored a fourth goal in the 63rd minute when Desira entered the area after dribbling past two opponents and after he was tripped Mifsud made no mistake with a hard low drive from the penalty spot.
In the third minute of added time the score became 5-0 when Mifsud recevied the ball from a long drop-kick by Gatt and square-passed the ball to Shaw who scored with a hard drive from the edge of the area.
