Xgħajra Tornados coached by former Malta under-21 player and Mosta coach Iro Curmi,  are looking forward to the 2013/2014 season wearing their new kit supplied by Global College Malta, one of the club’s main sponsors. Xgħajra Tornados is a football club from the small seaside community of Xgħajra, located in southeastern Malta next to SmartCity where Global College Malta is based. Founded in 1985, Xgħajra Tornados currently competes in the Maltese Third Division but the club previously made it into the top flight and played in the Maltese Premier League, an ambition they retain having narrowly missed promotion to the Second Division last season by a single heart-breaking point.

With new sponsors helping to fund club development, progress is part of the team mentality, a team which is training daily and looking for positive results. As part of the new structure the team took part in The World Youth Cup tournament in Sweden recently as part of their pre-season preparation, where they won an award.

Xgħajra Tornados provides young people with an opportunity to improve themselves through sport and it was this sporting ethic which attracted Global College Malta to support the small club on SmartCity’s perimeter with Global College Malta giving over €14,000 in post-graduation awards to young students, as well as €38,000 in scholarships to the Maltese Government as part of a package of scholarships available from Malta’s newest tertiary education facility, thereby reflecting a similar chance to determined young students to improve themselves through good quality British-style education.

Professor Brian Smart, Rector at Global College Malta said, “Global College Malta was founded with an aim to educate and train its students to face current market needs with strong technical and real-world experience. Sport is a real experience in the world and we are very proud to be presenting these new kits to Xgħajra Tornados. These spirited Tornados are willing to face the challenges of the football league, which will make them better prepared to face challenges in the future, which also happens to be the ethos of our education philosophy at Global College Malta.”

Located at SmartCity, Global College Malta offers a sophisticated state-of the art learning environment and gives students the opportunity to study alongside and share cross-cultural insights with people from diverse countries. In this environment students will be trained to become leaders and managers in a variety of business and IT sectors, for both global and local markets. Global College Malta is the first European College offering university degrees according to British standards at SmartCity. Currently the college is welcoming its first students and staff are arriving for the new academic year. A refit of the second floor in SCM01 is now complete and students may tour the facility.

Global College Malta is collaborating with and representing highly respected international universities to act as an important education hub. Through Global College Malta’s services, cutting-edge institutions such as Wharfdale Technologies will have the opportunity of teaching and adding to the knowledge-base on the Islands, which is set to become one of the top destinations for students due to its strategic position and its high level of proficiency in English language, becoming a high-value-added education hub at the centre of the Mediterranean with Global College focused on British style education in key sectors such as Oil & Gas, Management and IT (Cloud Computing).
