Glenn Borg in Santa Pod and Autocross in Ta’ Qali

Next Sunday the Assocjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi (ASMK) will continue the ninth from twelve events from the Autocross National Championship 2018-2019 sponsored by Pasta Poiatti. This event is to take place at the ASMK Sports Complex in Ta’ Qali and races start at noon.

During this weekend Glenn Borg is committed in Motorcycle Drag Racing in ‘Santa Pod’ in England where he will be racing in the 2019′s Top Fuel Class of the European Drag Racing Championship on his Suzuki Hyabusa. Borg is currently in the UK to make the preparations, as on Friday he will be in action while the eliminations and official timings will be held on Saturday and Sunday. The ASMK Association wishes every success to Glenn Borg.

Meanwhile last Sunday ASMK’s Motocross division organized the sixth event of the Honda Motocross National Championship 2018/2019. For this event 26 competitors were registered while for the first time this season, ASMK had seen the participation of three Italian riders who purposely came to Malta to participate with the Maltese riders in this event.

During the day in the Motocross Class A, Kyle Camilleri on his 250cc KTM motorcycle again dominated his class and again registered another win during this current season. Kyle was followed by Bernard Sammut in 2nd place on a Beta.

In the Motocross Class B thirteen motocross riders made it to the Starting Line Gate. In the first race Daniel Caruana on a Honda motorcycle won this race followed by Garry Debono on a KTM and ahead of Krist Falzon on a Husqvarna. In the second race Caruana again started leading the pack from the start until he fell off his bike and Debono took the lead and ultimately won the race as well as the Class B. Debono was followed by Ryan Faenza on a Yamaha and by the Gozo rider Jorn Stellini on a KTM.

The three Italian riders who participated in Class B were Vincenzo Barone on a Kawasaki, Emanuele Bougiovanni on Suzuki motorcycle and Fabio Galota on a Kawasaki. Although this was their first experience riding motocross in Malta Galota finished in fifth place, Bongiovanni finished in seventh place whilst Barone finished in tenth place. The Association at the end of the activity presented them with mementos to commemorate their participation in Malta.

In the Class for Motocross Veterans the challenge was mainly between five Riders where Carmelo Borg on his Suzuki motorcycle dominated this class and won 1st place on the day. Borg was followed by Paul Deguara on a KTM. Third place finisher was William Sant on a Honda. Meanwhile another activity by Honda Motocross National Championship 2018/2019 is due to be held on 2nd June 2019 with the event beginning at 10: 00am.

The Association has just announced two other important race dates. The last event of the 2018/2019 National Autocross Championship is to be held on Saturday 13th July 2019. This event will come to its end with the Van Demolition Derby 2019.

Another date of high priority is another Ladies Demolition Derby dedicated  for only lady competitors. The Executive Committee of ASMK decided to hold this event on the opening of the Autocross 2019/2020 season which is expected to be held on Sunday 27th October 2019 when the day’s program comes to the end by the second edition of the Ladies Demolition Derby.
