Girls on Top in Airgun Selection Competition

Last Saturday the Malta Air-Rifle & Pistol Club organized a shooting competition for the selection of shooters to represent Malta in the forthcoming Commonwealth Shooting Federation Championships being held in Jersey next September.

Alison Vella achieved a classic win in the air-rifle event with a Personal Best score of 548/600 points ahead of 2nd placed Michael Xuereb 532 points. Newcomer Hynalka Adam who is progressing rapidly in this sport, won 3rd placed with a PB score of 524 points while Annabel Borg ended in 4th position with 502 points.
Another top score was achieved by Malta’s top air-pistol shooter – Eleanor Bezzina who won the ‘mixed’ air-pistol event with an excellent score of 373/400. Ray Cacciattolo was second and followed by Mario Mallia Milanes in third place. Stephen Vassallo and Martin Grech achieved 4th and 5th placing respectively.
Malta will now be represented by Eleanor Bezzina in the women’s air-pistol event whilst Alison Bezzina will be taking part for the first time in the women’s air-rifle event at the Commonwealth’s Shooting Championships (European Division) in Jersey along with top shooters from England, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Guearnsey, Jersey, Isle of Man, Gibraltar and Cyprus.
