Valletta F.C. are organising a Gilbert Agius Testimonial. During this Testimonial the Valletta F.C. selection will be play a friendly match against Whitegate Utd. The event will be held at the Luxol Sports Ground on 4th June at 17:30hrs.

Gilbert started his football career with Luxol S. Andrew’s nursery before joining his home town club Valletta. He soon settled into the capital city’s senior team and played for the Malta Under-21 side where, notably, he scored Malta’s winning goal against Luxembourg on 21st February 1995.

Agius made his Citizens debut at the age of 16 on 2nd September 1990, against Sliema Wanderers. On 7th November 1993 at the age of 19 he made his debut for the senior national side in a 2-1 victory for Malta over Gabon in an international tournament in Tunisia.

Gilbert Agius won the player of the month 13 times: in 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998 (twice), 2000, 2001 (twice), 2003 (twice), 2007 (twice) and 2001. On October 11, 2011 Gilbert Agius received the commemorative cap and medal issued by UEFA for players who have reached a century of international appearances.

April 23, 2010 Gilbert Agius made his 400th league appearance for the club nearly 20 years after his debut against the same opposition Sliema Wanderers.

During the beginning of the season 2012–13, Gilbert Agius was chosen as Assistant Manager of Valletta, with coach Mark Miller. He later left this role and came out of retirement to play for Gozitan side Xewkija Tigers, helping them to win the GFA title but his appointment as Valletta coach effectively brought the curtains down on his decorated playing career.

May 2014 saw Agius be appointed as Valletta F.C. coach. Gilbert emerged as favourite to succeed Andre Paus who left the Citizens and was appointed coach of Cypriot club Anorthosis Famagusta.

Season 2015-16, Paul Zammit was appointed as the new Valletta F.C. coach while Gilbert Agius was appointed as assistant coach. During their first season, Zammit and Agius succeeded in winning the BOV Premier League.

Entrance fee for the Gilbert Agius Testimonial is €5.00, donation in Aid of Hospice Movement.  700 tickets are available for this event.
