General Meeting called by the Island Karting Club on the optimum use of the budget allocation

The Island Karting Club (IKC) is calling a meeting of its members, as well as members of other clubs who are interested in participating in events at the IKC permanent karting circuit at Hal Far, when this is finally developed. The members of other motor sports clubs and associations as well as the general public, particularly spectators of motor sports events in Malta, are also invited. The meeting is being convened on Tuesday, 8th May at 8.00 pm at the Ballroom of the Radisson Blu Resort in St. Julian’s , thanks to the generous support of the management of the Resort.

In the Budget Speech 2012, an allocation of 350,000 euro was provided for “the development of an adequate circuit for training and competitions connected to karting …” and other relevant vehicles – page 68. No such work has commenced during the past 4 months – apart from the marking of a temporary track by white paint in the braking area used for drag racing, and the purchase of barriers. The IKC is therefore rallying the support of its members and all others who have an interest in seeing the permanent karting circuit begin to take shape.

On 15th November 2005, in reply to Parliamentary Question 15572, the Hon. Minister of Education of that time had announced that the IKC karting track was to be upgraded. Nothing has happened during the past 6 years, but now that an allocation has been made in the Budget – which the IKC and its supporters fully appreciate – IKC is eager to see the works commence on such a project.

The IKC will be displaying its draft plans for the permanent karting circuit at the meeting, and any suggestions made by the other clubs will be taken into consideration in the final draft of the circuit.

In the course of the meeting, an important statement and appeal is expected to be made to the authorities of Malta. The meeting will take place on Tuesday, 8th May at 8.00 pm, at the Radisson Blu Resort, St. Julain’s
