GasanMamo employee Brian Scicluna has been given the opportunity to become a sea cadet with sailing yacht Comanche Raider II.  The yacht is a staple on the Maltese racing circuit and also competes in the yearly Middle Sea Race that takes place in October and has been sponsored and supported by GasanMamo Insurance for a number of years.

Brian Scicluna, who is a software engineer by profession, will form part of this leading sailing team for the 2012 season.  The initiative involves rigorous training sessions with the rest of the team together with participation in races.  Weekly training sessions happen after office hours and last between two to three hours.

“This fantastic opportunity has been made possible through our longstanding relationship with Comanche Raider II,” said Julian J. Mamo, Director at GasanMamo.  “We’re glad that our relationship with Comanche Raider II is giving a GasanMamo team member who loves the outdoors, enjoys endurance sports and is willing to take up a challenge, first-hand sailing experience.”

Brian Scicluna has already started his training regime with the Comanche Raider II crew headed by skipper Jonas Diamantino.  It is Brian’s first sailing experience and although he is very much involved in the local off-roading scene including the organising of competitions for the All Wheel Drive Club, this new sport is very different.  “The recent favourable weather with some nice breezes meant that I could finally start my training,” said Brian Scicluna, who has been eager to start this experience.  “There is a lot to learn but I have started some hands-on training, and I am now learning all the sailing terminology whilst also doing my own research to speed up the learning process!  It really is a great opportunity and I’m looking forward to a summer of sailing with the GasanMamo Comanche Raider II”.
