The Spartans were the better outfit during the game as they created much more occasions than St Patrick. They are now in sixth place on 10 points from 9 games while St Patrick are still with any points also from 9 games.
The first action came from Hamrun when Seymour Micallef headed just out after a flag kick by Brady Galea.
In a reaction by St Patrick they mounted two actions. Shalon Diacono was fouled on the left flank and Hamrun keeper Andrea Camilleri saved the free kick shot by the same player, the same player was again fouled just outside the area and Kurt Tabone drove slightly over the bar from the free kick.
In Hamrun’s next attack in the 13th minute they forged ahead when Micallef served Luke Galea with a through ball in the area and after he was floored Jake Grech made no mistake from the resultant penalty.
Galea scored another goal for Hamrun in the 23rd minute after he was put through by Luca Bugeja but the point was disallowed for off side.
Two minutes later St Patrick came very close an equaliser when Jake Aquilina released Ryan Calleja in the area and Camilleri saved his shot in two attempts, while at the other end moments later, Grech served Bugeja in the area and Saints keeper Daniel Farrugia saved his shot to a corner.
The score became 2-0 in the 35th minute when Gary Cauchi served Galea with a through ball in the area and as he was tripped Grech again made no mistake from the spot.
The last action before the break came from St Patrick when Camilleri denied Calleja with a diving save after being put through in the area by Aquilina.
Hamrun created the first actions after the restart. Bugeja served Galea in the area and Camilleri saved his shot with a diving save in two attempts and in their next action they were denied by the wood work when Bugeja pounced on a loose ball and after entering the area the ball hit the base of the upright from his shot and finished in Camilleri’s waiting hands.
St Patrick then won a corner kick on the left flank which was taken by Diacono who served Aquilina with a short pass and Camilleri saved the latter’s shot to another corner.
Hamrun reacted and created all the actions up to the end. From a flag kick by Bugeja the ball was partly cleared and Micallef drove over the bar from the rebound and substitute Samuel Lucas served Grech with a cross from the left and Camilleri saved his effort from outside the area with a diving save.
