Galea for Garmin Cernobbio Triathlon 2013

Following his bronze medal success in the Alanya European Triathon Championships held last June, Birkirkara St. Joseph’s Keith Galea will be heading to Italy to take part in the Garmin Olympic Triathlon in Cernobbio on the 4th August. The 1.5-kilometre swim segment of this race will be held in lake Como. The ensuing 40-kilometre bike takes the triathletes on an undulating course around the lake, and the triathlon finishes with two 5-kilometre laps through the city of Como.

Coached by 10 times national triathlon champion Dermot Galea, the Birkirkara triathlete aimed his training specifically for this race following is success in the Europeans. The Cernobbio triathlon is a high profile event in the Italian calendar and one expects a number of professional Italian triathletes to be present, battling it out for top honours.

Galea’s performances this season have been very satisfactory. Besides setting a national record in the European, the national champion has this year won all the triathlons held in Malta, and even managed to win the first race of the Birkirkara St. Joseph 5K Road Running Series. At the moment he is leading the overall classifications of both his Club’s Triathlon Series and Running Series and is in third place in the Open Water Swimming Championships. Earlier on in the year he finished third Maltese and seventh overall in the Malta Half Marathon.

In Cernobbio Galea will be assisted by his main sponsors Garmin Malta. The Birkirkara St Joseph Triathlete is also sponsored by Starbene Shop of Mosta and BBB Bike Parts.
