Keith Galea and Brian Magri have continued to register excellent results in the UK throughout this summer. At great personal sacrifice, Galea is currently in the UK where he is training like a professional in order to achieve his dream to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics. This is no easy matter since qualification depends on him taking part in high-profile international races which can earn him ranking points for the Olympics.

In the meantime, his participation in triathlon races have produced some excellent results: On 1st August he took part in the Blithfield Olympic Triathlon where he finished 14th Overall and 3rd in his Age Group (20-24) – a result which was good enough to qualify him for the Triathlon World Championship in Budapest on the 12th September. On the 15th August, he took part in the British Championship which was held in Bedford. Here, with one of the strongest fields, Galea managed a creditable 30th Overall (over 600 participants) and 6th Age Group. A week later, he finished 2nd Overall and 1st Age Group in the Nottingham Sprint Triathlon in a time of 1hr:01m:06s – a race where the second podium spot was so highly contested that himself and another athlete were both given the same time, though Galea was seen to cross the finish line just ahead of the athlete who eventually finished 3rd.

Following his 41st placing at the London Triathlon, Brian Magri went on to take part in the Sprint Triathlon held at the same venue a week later. Here, with over 1400 participants setting off at different times according to their varying Age Groups, the evergreen Magri surprised everyone by finishing 2nd Overall in a time of 1hr:10m:03s.
