Friendly 0-0 Draw for the Mediterranean islands

A young Malta shared the spoils with Cyprus in an Under-21 International Friendly played at the National Stadium. Rowen Muscat and Mark Scerri dictated play in midfield whilst Joseph Zerafa and Owen Bugeja were at the heart of the defense. These four players had an excellent game in a nil-nil draw which could have been easily won by the home team. On one hand there was a penalty call when two Cypriot defenders tackled Pulo at the same time in the box with the referee seeing nothing to it. Some minutes later the Cypriot defender Panayiotou floored Pulo in the D at the edge of the box with the referee showing only a yellow card.

Mark Scerri hit the post in the first half from his second free kick of the match. Cyprus attacker Tofas had a header go just wide from a perfect cross from the left. In the second half the young Maltese team ventured forward with plenty of possession and shots on goal. Pulo was twice denied and Scerri had his shots blocked by the defence or the Cypriot goal keeper. Rowen Muscat audacious effort from well outside the box in the 93rd minute  surely surprised the small crowd at the National Stadium but the ball went just wide.

The Under-21 team plays Ukraine in the 29th of May in the last qualification match in the group.
