Sliema Mc Donalds ares expected to announce that one of their foreign players for next season will be the Croatian goalkeeper Frano Vićan.

Sportinmalta can confirm that the Blues’ coach Sergio Afric has been in contact with Vican, but the final decision lies with the Sliema committee who are also contemplating the acquisition of another Croatian superstar as their second foreigner for the 2012 season. The name making the rounds in the Sliema clan, although yet to be confirmed, is that of Pavo Marković,who scored the two winning extra-time goals for Croatia in the 2007 World Championships final.

National team mentor Afric, was instrumental in luring this renowned goalkeeper to join the Blues. Vican, is considered to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world and has won almost every honour the game has to offer both at club and international level.

In 2007, Vican starred in the Croatia team that lifted the World Championship title after beating Hungary in the final. The thirty five year old has earned 129 caps with his national team and has participated in the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games.

Sliema’s first choice goalkeeper for last season, Ryan Coleiro, is set to leave Sliema after falling out of favour with Afric, and also because his contract expired last month.
