Founder of Ghazliet Sportivi passes away

Former sports editor of in-Nazzjon Taghna, il-Mument, Sporting Star and regular contributor with various local sports paper Benny Pace passed away in the early hours of today at the age of 74.

Mr. Pace  was the founder of the traditional Ghazliet Sportivi Nazzjonali  with the very first edition held in 1960. At that time he was editor in chief of the sports newspaper Sporting Star and Soccer Magazine. Later on in his brilliant journalistic career Benny Pace joined the Nationalist’s Party newspapers in-Nazzjon Taghna and il-Mument. His role was as chief editor where he gradually introduced a new way of sports reporting in our country.

Benny Pace had particular love to Valletta FC where apart from being an avid fan in his young years he then embarked on the administration role as General Secretary with the Club in the 80’s and 90’s where he worked hand in hand with former Valletta FC President Joe Caruana Curren.

Mr. Pace helped many local sports association to establish themselves namely, the Malta Basketball Association, Malta Billiards and Snooker Association, Malta Darts Association, Malta Boxing Federation where he also occupied top posts within these associations.

Benny Pace was lately given a recognition award in the Melita Malta Football Awards for his sterling contribution as one of the most successful administrators in the local football scenario.

The Malta Sports Journalists Association – Ghaqda Gurnalisti Sports issued a Press Release expressing condolences for the sad loss of one of it’s founder members.
