Football: Two Referees Dropped From Premier Pool

Saturday, August 16, 2014, 22:53

Referees Malcolm Spiteri and Glenn Tonna have been momentarily dropped from the pool of 14 premier division referees this site has learnt.

Hours before the start of the new 2014/14 season this site can reveal that a new system is in place for referees officiating games this season whereby the pool has diminished from 14 referees to 12 including the only top female referee Esther Azzopardi who will be in action not before December since she has just given birth to her first child.

Spiteri and Tonna were informed of this decision by Adrian Casha during the latest seminar organised overseas for local referees.

The idea behind the revamp of the top pool referees is so that more referees officiate more regularly premier league games. Malcolm Spiteri and Glenn Tonna will still be seen at premier league games but as second addition referees (goal line referees).
