Football: Special Olympics Malta Football team won the gold medal at the ‘Games of Inclusion’ Special Olympics Italy

Special Olympics Malta Football team competed at the ‘Games of Inclusion’ Special Olympics Italy, in La Spezia.
Participating countries besides several regional teams from SO Italy were SO Spain, SO Romania, SO Andorra, SO San Marino, SO Switzerland and SO Gibraltar.
Special Olympics Malta team was the youngest team to participate during these games. Malta competed in 2nd Division level and was convincingly the best. Our athletes showed determination, skills and teamwork.
In group stage SO Malta played against SO Italy Superhability which they won 5 – 0 and SO Italy Divertime 3 – 2. SO Malta lost their last group game against SO Gibraltar  1 – 0.
Having finished 2nd in the group SO Malta still qualified for the Final game for GOLD medal against SO Gibraltar yesterday where they won the GOLD medal beating SO Gibraltar 1 – 0.
Good to note that for the first time we had the first Male Gozitian footballer representing Gozo. Carmelo Pace ended top scorer of the team with 6 goals including the winning goal in the Final game against Gibraltar.
Other scorers were Matthew Bugeja 2 Goals and Sedrick Peplow 1 Goal.
SO Malta will be returning home Today 16th June at 8:25pm.
