Football Special: Mosta Team Manager & ex-President of Msida SJ amongst involved in ‘Operation Dirty Soccer’.

Following reports in both local and Italian media, Sport In Malta senior editor Marc James talks with Mosta FC Team Manager Adrian Farrugia Tuesday afternoon.

During the telephonic conversation Farrugia stated that he had visited the Malta Football Association Tuesday morning and when asked Farrugia replied that the MFA did not have such information. He also denies the claim that he has any involvement in betting or dealing in the Lega Pro and Serie D as reported in the Itailan Media.

Farrugia, a Mosta Club Official is placed under investigation marked in Italian ‘Operation Dirty Soccer’ alongside ex – Msida St. Joseph President Robert Farrugia who we have not yet been able to contact. The two Farrugia’s are closely related as they are brothers.

Under this Italian Rome Criminal Central Operation hub, the Maltese faces are place amongst the Russians, Chinese, Kazakhstan and Italian football players where more than 50 arrests have been made in Italy as part of this football match-fixing inquiry .

SIM.Com sources say that more than 70 have been placed under investigation as part of a widespread match-fixing inquire led by anti-Mafia prosecutors in the southern town of Catanzaro.

The football community is faced with a significant number of match-fixing incidents and allegations of corruption. Match-fixing in football is a global challenge, with more than 60 countries initiating investigations over the past two years.
