Floriana out for another win

Valletta take on ninth place Tarxien Rainbows today at the National Stadium (kick-off 17.00 live on Malta Stars) with the Citizens looking to return to winning ways after in their last match they drew against Champions Birkirkara. Kenneth Scicluna and club captain Gilbert Agius still are doubtful. Tarxien had a very difficult start of the season and will aim to take something from this game after they suffered their second defeat of the season against Qormi. Noel Coleiro has no selection problems. 

Saturday’s first match sees seventh placed Floriana meet bottom side Vittoriosa Stars. After their much discussed win against Hamrun Spartans, Todor Raykov’s side starts hot favourite against strugglers Vittoriosa. Lofti Saidi is still doubtful after he picked an injury last Sunday but welcome back U/17 YFA Player of the year Sacha Borg and also  make use of Duncun Pisani after the latter he was excluded from the 18 man squad last weekend. Winston Muscat the Vittoriosa coach has no selection problems and welcomes back Brazilian Edison Luis Dos Santos and Jonathan Xerri.

On Sunday current Champions Birkirkara start slightly favourite to win the three points against Marsaxlokk. Paul Zammit and Patrick Curmi will both aim for victory to continue the chase for the first two places in the table. The Stripes have to play without two key  midfielders namely Shaun Bajada and nineteen year old Rowen Muscat both nursing ankle injuries. On the other hand Patrick Curmi can field his best formation.

At 17.00 on Sunday, Hamrun Spartans meet Mark Miller’s Hiberians also at the National Stadium. Hamrun Spartans have just signed Peter Anizoba Chizoba so he can fill the role of Dene Shields in attack after the Scot picked also an injury which will leave his our a couple of games. Also ruled out are Clyde Camoin, Mead Mifsud and suspended Steve Bonnici and Martin Hrubsa after their sending off against Floriana. Mark Anthony Bonnici might make his seasonal debut. Hiberians have no selection problems and will aim for victory after they only managed two points from their last three games.

On Monday Second placed Sliema battle it against Qormi FC (live broadcast on Malta Stars at 19.30). It will be the first time for Stephen Azzopardi to coach against former side. Qormi will aim to collect more points after there second half impressive display victory against Tarxien Rainbows. Beppe Muscat is ruled out against the yellows in a match that the blues will aim to improve their performance.
