Final Score: Floriana 1-0 Hamrun Spartans

by Joshua Cacciatolo

Floriana beat Hamrun Spartans in a dull encounter in today’s second encounter as the Greens move up now to the first place with leaders Valletta on nine points from four games, the latter with game in hand to be played on Sunday against Mosta.

Floriana veteran Ivan Woods scored the only goal in a lacklustre match which saw most of the play take place in the middle of the field as Hamrun Spartans failed to find a way through what is becoming an increasingly impressive Floriana defence who just conceded two goals from four matches.

Floriana’s mentor Michael Woods opted for a 4-4-1-1 formation as veteran playmaker Ivan Woods support Nigerian striker Boris Odwong. Cristiana Caruana returned for the Greens only to make the line up as Joseph Borg and goalkeeper Manuel Bartolo replaced Thomas Paris and suspended William Amamoo respectively.

Hamrun Spartans mentor Jesmond Zammit started an initial 4-3-3 formation as Anderson Mendes Ribiero, Kevin Sammut and Geatan Spiteri formed the trident upfront.
